Series of 6 inkjet prints
40 x 50 cm each Andy Mullens' body of work half-half looks at interactions that stem from her Vietnamese-Australian heritage. These phrases that are featured in Mullens' work are frequent questions and comments that she receives on a daily basis from friends and from strangers. Using food that is typically associated with being “Asian” Mullens has taken these seemingly harmless sentences and elevated them to a platform where culture, authenticity and stereotypes can be discussed. By sharing these experiences Mullens seeks to question perceptions of culture.
