The series Lightness is an exploration of light within Mullens' childhood home. She traces the path of light in her own room as a child as well as her sister’s room. Over the years the two sisters shared rooms, swapped rooms, and had sleep-overs in each others rooms where they would play, set up cubby-houses and get in trouble for staying up talking. There is a strong connection between Mullens' memories of these rooms and memories of her sister. The photographs pay attention to the small details, and the meticulous fibre-based printing process possesses an almost meditative quality. This series was the first step into a long-running theme of identity that is present within Mullens' practice. This series is dedicated to Andy's sister Nicole.
